Description

The Makerbase MKS TMC2208 v2.0 is a highly regarded single-axis stepper motor drive chip, designed to optimize motion control in various digital fabrication systems, particularly 3D printers. This module comes pre-configured with a default current of 1.25A and can handle a maximum current of 2.0A, operating efficiently within an input voltage range of 4.75V to 36V. Its core strength lies in its ability to achieve step resolutions up to 256 microsteps, ensuring incredibly smooth and precise motor movements.

Utilizing patented technologies such as SpreadCycle high chopper frequency and StealthChop mute technology, the TMC2208 v2.0 drastically reduces operational noise compared to its predecessors like the TMC2100. Furthermore, features like CoolStep stream dynamic adjustment technology contribute to up to 70% energy savings, while stallGuard2 provides stall detection. The lower heat generation of the TMC2208 means it runs significantly cooler than the TMC2100, even at higher current loads, making it a reliable and energy-efficient upgrade. It supports UART mode via simple jumper caps on compatible mainboards like MKS SGEN L V1.0, MKS GEN L V2.0, MKS Robin E3D, and SKR 1.3/1.4, offering enhanced configuration flexibility without the need for complex soldering.
