The RepRap MK2B Dual Power PCB Heat Bed offers a significant enhancement for most open-source 3D printer setups. Its unique three-point mounting system, featuring a central front mounting hole, vastly simplifies the bed leveling process compared to traditional four-point configurations. Users can easily level one side with two holes, fix it, and then level the remaining single-hole side, ensuring a perfectly planar print surface. For optimal flatness and rigidity, the use of a glass plate atop the heat bed is highly recommended.
This heat bed is engineered for robust power delivery and ease of assembly. The solder pads have been substantially enlarged, accommodating 1206 surface mount components with greater ease and simplifying wiring. It supports flexible power connections; for 12V operation, connect to lines 1 and (2+3), achieving 1.0-1.2Ω resistance. For 24V, connect to lines 2 and 3, resulting in 4.0Ω resistance. In either configuration, the circuit ensures a stable 144W power output, providing reliable and consistent heating across the active area.
Rigorous testing confirms the heat bed’s efficiency and stability. When operating at 12V, the current typically starts around 9.8A, gradually reducing to 8.8A as the temperature rises due to increased resistance. At 24V, the theoretical maximum current draw remains safely below 5A, making it suitable for a wide range of power supply units without excessive strain.
