Description

The MB1443 HRUSB-MaxSonar-EZ4 ultrasonic sensor utilizes a 42kHz transducer to accurately measure distance to objects. It employs sophisticated signal processing, including real-time automatic calibration and waveform signature analysis, to deliver virtually noise-free readings even in the presence of electrical or acoustic interference.

Designed for easy integration, the compact module (less than one Cubic Sensor inch) includes mounting holes on its PCB. It operates on a ~4Hz read rate with approximately 250ms between consecutive range readings, making it suitable for applications requiring periodic distance monitoring without high-speed updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage for the MB1443 sensor, and how is it powered?

The MB1443 HRUSB-MaxSonar-EZ4 is powered directly through its USB interface. It draws power from the standard 5V USB bus, eliminating the need for an external power supply. Simply connect it to a USB port on a PC, Raspberry Pi, or compatible USB host.

What is the beam width or pattern of this ultrasonic sensor?

This sensor features a narrow ultrasonic beam pattern. This design provides excellent rejection of side objects, allowing for precise targeting of the intended object and reducing false readings from peripheral obstacles or environmental clutter.

Can multiple MB1443 sensors operate simultaneously without interference?

Yes, the sensor supports multi-sensor operation. Its advanced algorithms, including real-time waveform signature analysis, help mitigate acoustic crosstalk. For optimal performance in multi-sensor setups, strategic physical placement or software-based staggering of measurement cycles is recommended.

How do I read data from the sensor's USB output?

The sensor presents itself as a USB serial (CDC) device. Connect it to a host, and it will appear as a virtual COM port. You can read ASCII-formatted range data (in millimeters) using any terminal software or serial library in your programming environment (e.g., Python's PySerial, Arduino's Serial Monitor).

What surfaces or materials can this sensor reliably detect?

The sensor reliably detects most solid objects that effectively reflect sound waves. Performance is best on flat, hard surfaces. Soft, porous, or thin materials (like fabrics) may absorb sound and reduce the effective range. Angled surfaces can also deflect the beam, potentially causing missed detections.
