Description

The KSD9700 series thermal control switch utilizes a bimetallic disc mechanism housed within a metallic shell. When the ambient temperature reaches the calibrated setpoint of 105°C, the disc snaps and physically opens the electrical contacts, breaking the circuit to prevent overheating. The metallic housing ensures rapid thermal response and durable protection against physical damage.

This switch is designed for direct series connection within the power line of the device it protects. Its normally-closed configuration makes it fail-safe, automatically interrupting current flow upon over-temperature events. After cooling below the reset temperature, the contacts will automatically reclose, restoring operation.

Key Features

  • Fixed Temperature Protection: Precisely calibrated to trip at 105°C (±5°C typical) for consistent over-temperature cutoff.
  • Robust Electrical Rating: Handles up to 10A resistive load at 250V AC or DC, suitable for a wide range of appliances and industrial equipment.
  • Durable Metallic Enclosure: Provides excellent heat transfer, mechanical protection, and resistance to environmental factors.
  • Snap-Action Mechanism: Ensures quick, positive contact separation to prevent arcing and ensure reliable circuit interruption.
  • Automatic Reset: Contacts re-engage automatically once the temperature drops sufficiently below the trip point, enabling unattended operation.
  • Compact & Mountable Design: Small footprint with pre-attached 7cm wire leads simplifies integration into existing chassis and assemblies.

Applications

  • Over-temperature protection for AC/DC power supplies, battery chargers, and transformers.
  • Safety cutoff in electric motors, solenoids, and industrial coil windings.
  • Thermal management in heating elements for appliances like coffee makers, soldering irons, and food warmers.
  • Preventive safety device in power tools, lighting ballasts, and audio amplifiers.
  • General-purpose temperature monitoring and cutoff in electronic enclosures and control cabinets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the trip temperature and contact state of this KSD9700 switch?

This switch has a fixed trip temperature of 105°C (221°F). It is configured as Normally Closed (NC), meaning the contacts are closed under normal conditions and will open to break the circuit once the surrounding temperature reaches 105°C.

What is the maximum electrical load this thermal switch can handle?

The switch is rated for a maximum current of 10 Amps at a voltage of up to 250 Volts, either AC or DC. This rating is typically for resistive loads. For inductive loads (like motors), derating may be necessary to account for inrush currents and arcing.

How do I install and wire this temperature control switch?

Install the switch in direct thermal contact with the component or surface you need to monitor (e.g., motor housing, heatsink). Connect it in series with the live wire of the power line to the device being protected. The two wire leads are not polarized. Ensure the metallic shell is properly mounted for accurate temperature sensing.

Does this switch reset automatically after it trips?

Yes, this is an automatic reset thermostat. Once the temperature cools down sufficiently below the 105°C trip point (typically by 10-20°C), the bimetallic disc will snap back, closing the contacts and restoring power to the circuit automatically.
