The TCRT5000 module integrates an infrared emitter and a phototransistor in a single package, utilizing the principle of differential light absorption. When IR light strikes a reflective (white) surface, it is reflected back to the phototransistor, generating a high signal. On a non-reflective (black) surface, the light is absorbed, resulting in a low signal. This binary contrast enables precise line tracking.
The module includes onboard signal conditioning circuitry that provides a clean digital output via a comparator, as well as a raw analog output for threshold adjustment. Its compact form factor and pre-drilled mounting holes facilitate quick installation in robotic platforms, educational kits, and automated guidance systems.
