Description

The ISB-TS45D infrared thermopile sensor operates on the principle of detecting infrared energy emitted by objects, converting it into an electrical signal via an array of micro-thermocouples on a silicon chip. This non-contact method allows for temperature measurement without physical interaction with the target. The sensor’s 90° detection angle and integrated optical filter make it suitable for applications requiring broad-area thermal monitoring.

Housed in a robust TO-46 metal package, the sensor is designed for high reliability in controlled environments. It includes a built-in NTC thermistor to compensate for the sensor’s own temperature drift, enhancing measurement stability. The device is intended for indoor use; for outdoor applications, proper sealing and protective optical filters are required to prevent performance degradation from moisture, dust, or contaminants.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the integrated NTC thermistor in the ISB-TS45D sensor?

The built-in NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistor measures the ambient temperature of the sensor package itself. This reading is used to compensate for the sensor's own temperature drift, which is critical for obtaining accurate target temperature measurements. Without this compensation, changes in the sensor's operating environment would directly affect the output signal.

Can the ISB-TS45D be used for outdoor applications?

The sensor is primarily designed for indoor use. For outdoor deployment, you must implement suitable protective measures. This includes adding an appropriate external optical filter to block environmental interference and designing a fully sealed, moisture-proof enclosure to prevent condensation, dust ingress, and degradation from corrosive gases or SEA breeze, as specified in the design restrictions.

What are the key soldering guidelines for this thermopile sensor?

Hand soldering must be performed carefully to avoid thermal damage. The pin temperature should not exceed 260°C, and the heating time should be limited to a maximum of 10 seconds. After soldering, all flux residues must be thoroughly cleaned using a brush and appropriate solvent; do not use an ultrasonic cleaner as the vibrations can damage the delicate internal thermopile structure.

What does the '5μm long-wave pass filter' do?

The 5μm long-wave pass filter integrated into the sensor's TO-46 package acts as a spectral window. It allows infrared radiation with wavelengths longer than 5 micrometers to pass through to the thermopile element while blocking shorter wavelengths, including visible light. This ensures the sensor primarily responds to the thermal infrared radiation emitted by objects, which is essential for accurate temperature sensing.
