This capacitive sensor is designed specifically for non-metallic containers such as those made from plastic, glass, fiberglass, or PVC. It detects liquid presence through the container wall by sensing changes in dielectric constant. It will not function correctly on conductive metal tanks unless an insulating layer or sight glass is used.

The sensor typically provides a simple digital switch output, often in the form of a PNP or NPN transistor sink/source.
