Cytron Technologies Maker Soil Moisture Sensor (Capacitive) - Analog Output, Grove Port
The Cytron Technologies Maker Soil Moisture Sensor is a capacitive sensing module with analog voltage output, designed for easy integration with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other 3.3V/5V microcontroller platforms via its Grove connector. It provides a corrosion-resistant solution for monitoring soil hydration levels in automated gardening and agricultural systems.
Features
- Capacitive sensing principle with a corrosion-resistant, double-sided PCB probe.
- Analog voltage output inversely proportional to soil moisture (higher moisture = lower voltage).
- Integrated three-state LED indicator for visual dry/moist/wet status.
- Wide 2.5V to 7.0V operating range compatible with 3.3V and 5V logic systems.
- Includes power-saving disable pin and standard Grove 4-pin connector for plug-and-play use.

The Cytron Technologies Maker Soil Moisture Sensor employs a capacitive sensing technique to measure the dielectric permittivity of the soil, which changes with water content. This method avoids the electrode corrosion common in resistive sensors, ensuring long-term stability and reliability. The sensor outputs an analog voltage signal that decreases as soil moisture increases, allowing for precise analog-to-digital conversion by a microcontroller’s ADC pin.
Designed for seamless integration, the module features a standard Grove 4-pin connector (signal, VCC, GND, and a dedicated disable pin) for quick prototyping with development boards like Seeed Studio Studio Grove Base Shields, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi. Its robust PCB construction and wide operating voltage range make it suitable for both battery-powered and mains-operated smart gardening and precision agriculture applications.
