The PMS7003 sensor utilizes a laser scattering technique to detect and count suspended particulate matter in the air. A laser diode illuminates particles, and a photodetector measures the intensity of scattered light at a specific angle. This data is processed internally to calculate the number concentration and mass concentration of particles within three size bins: 0.3-1.0μm (PM1.0), 1.0-2.5μm (PM2.5), and 2.5-10μm (PM10).
The module features an onboard microcontroller that handles the complex signal processing and outputs calibrated digital data via a UART TTL serial interface, simplifying integration with host systems. Its robust design supports continuous operation in diverse environmental conditions, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring applications. The sensor requires a stable 5V DC power supply and communicates using a standard asynchronous serial protocol.
