Description

The Teensy 4.0 leverages the NXP Semiconductors iMXRT1062, a ‘crossover’ processor that combines the functional efficiency of a microcontroller with the processing speed typically found in microcomputers. This makes it an excellent choice for demanding embedded applications that require extensive flash and RAM, significant data crunching capabilities, or the performance of two full-speed USB ports. Operating at 600 MHz, the Teensy 4.0 consumes approximately 100 mA, balancing high performance with reasonable power usage.

A key feature of the Teensy 4.0 is its support for dynamic clock scaling. Unlike many traditional microcontrollers where clock speed changes can disrupt baud rates and timing, the Teensy 4.0’s hardware and Teensyduino’s software are engineered to enable seamless speed adjustments. Serial baud rates, audio streaming, and Arduino timing functions like delay() and millis(), alongside Teensyduino’s extensions, all continue to operate correctly during CPU speed changes. Additionally, the board includes a power shut-off feature, allowing complete disabling of the 3.3V supply via a pushbutton, while a connected coin cell can maintain the onboard RTC for continuous date and time tracking.
