Description
The standard Raspberry Pi typically offers only a single UART port, which becomes a limitation when used for terminal debugging, preventing the connection of additional serial devices. The Waveshare Serial Expansion HAT effectively resolves this by adding two extra UART channels and eight programmable GPIOs, significantly enhancing the Raspberry Pi’s peripheral connectivity.
At its core, the HAT features the SC16IS752, a high-performance dual-channel UART that interfaces seamlessly via I2C or SPI. This specific module defaults to an I2C interface, with its device address being hardware configurable through A0 and A1 jumpers. Beyond serial communication, the SC16IS752 also extends the application with eight additional programmable I/O pins, providing greater flexibility for various projects and sensor integrations.
