Description
eSUN PLA-LW, or Lightweight PLA, is an advanced filament engineered to meet the demanding requirements of model aircraft design and other applications where weight reduction is critical. Its unique composition allows for active foaming during the extrusion process, which can be precisely controlled by adjusting the printing temperature. This innovative feature enables users to produce parts with significantly lower density, down to 0.54 g/cm³, while maintaining robust interlayer adhesion. The resulting lighter components contribute to improved aerodynamic performance, higher payloads, and extended flight times for drones and RC aircraft.
Beyond its lightweight properties, eSUN PLA-LW offers excellent printability. It maintains stable layer bonding, ensuring the structural integrity of thin-walled and intricate designs crucial for aerospace models. The filament provides a desirable matte surface finish, which helps to hide layer lines and provides a professional appearance without extensive post-processing. Its ease of printing makes it accessible for both hobbyists and professional designers looking to leverage advanced material properties.
When printing, users can experiment with print temperatures between 190°C and 270°C to fine-tune the foaming effect and achieve the desired balance between weight reduction and mechanical strength. A heated bed set between 45°C and 60°C is recommended for optimal adhesion. Properly dried filament will yield the best results, ensuring consistent foaming and preventing nozzle clogging. This specialized PLA variant expands the possibilities for creating high-performance, lightweight functional prototypes and end-use parts.
