While eSUN Silk-PLA can be printed without a heated bed, using one can significantly improve first-layer adhesion and prevent warping, especially for larger prints. A bed temperature between 60-80°C is recommended. Applying a thin layer of glue stick or a PEI sheet can further enhance adhesion and ensure successful prints.

Silk-PLA typically behaves similarly to standard PLA in terms of post-processing. It can be sanded, painted, and glued using methods suitable for PLA. However, its unique high-gloss finish might make sanding more noticeable if not done carefully. For preserving the silky look, minimize abrasive post-processing where possible to maintain its aesthetic appeal.

eSUN Silk-PLA retains good mechanical properties and toughness, comparable to traditional PLA. It's suitable for many functional prototypes and decorative parts that don't undergo extreme stress. While it's strong enough for general use, its primary enhancement is aesthetic. For high-stress mechanical components, consider engineering filaments like PETG or ABS for superior performance.

Common issues include stringing, which can often be mitigated by optimizing retraction settings and printing at the lower end of the temperature range. Layer lines might also be more visible due to the reflective surface; ensuring good layer adhesion and proper flow calibration is crucial. Keep the filament dry to prevent bubbling and inconsistent extrusion for best results.
