Description

This sensor is a Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) utilizing a platinum element (PT1000) whose electrical resistance changes predictably with temperature, following a positive temperature coefficient of 3.85 Ω/°C nominal. This principle offers superior long-term stability, repeatability, and accuracy compared to thermocouples or thermistors, making it ideal for demanding measurement scenarios.

The sensor is housed in a robust 316L stainless steel sheath, providing corrosion resistance and durability in harsh industrial environments. The integrated 1-meter cable is insulated with PTFE, ensuring waterproof integrity and reliable signal transmission. Its fast response time enables precise monitoring of dynamic thermal processes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PT100 and PT1000 sensors?

Both are Platinum RTD sensors, but they have different base resistances at 0°C. A PT100 has a resistance of 100Ω, while a PT1000 has 1000Ω. The PT1000's higher resistance can simplify circuit design by reducing the impact of lead wire resistance, potentially improving measurement accuracy in longer cable runs without requiring 3- or 4-wire compensation techniques.

How do I wire and interface this PT1000-S probe with my data logger or PLC?

This is a passive 2-wire RTD probe. You must connect it to a measurement instrument capable of exciting the RTD with a stable, low-current source and measuring the resulting voltage drop to calculate resistance and, consequently, temperature. Ensure your readout device (PLC, DAQ module, transmitter) is configured for PT1000 (1000Ω) input and uses the correct Callendar-Van Dusen coefficients for accurate linearization across the full temperature range.

What is the maximum temperature the stainless steel sheath can withstand?

The 316L stainless steel probe sheath is rated for continuous operation up to 550°C. However, the specified measurement range of the internal PT1000 element is -200°C to 420°C. For optimal sensor life and accuracy, it is recommended to operate within the specified measurement range, respecting the 420°C upper limit for the sensing element itself.

Is the cable truly waterproof, and can it be submerged?

Yes, the cable uses PTFE (Teflon) insulation, which is inherently hydrophobic and provides excellent waterproofing and chemical resistance. The probe sheath is also sealed. This makes the sensor suitable for immersion in liquids, provided the connections at the instrument end are properly protected from moisture ingress.
