Description

The Sensirion STS21 is a digital temperature sensor built on Sensirion’s proprietary CMOSens® technology, which integrates the sensing element, signal conditioning, analog-to-digital conversion, and digital processing on a single chip. This monolithic design provides exceptional measurement stability and reliability, with a typical accuracy of ±0.2°C and excellent repeatability of 0.12°C.

It communicates via a standard I2C interface, offering configurable resolution from 11 to 14 bits and supporting an ALERT function for programmable temperature thresholds. The sensor operates from a 2.1V to 3.6V supply, making it suitable for battery-powered applications. Its robust performance across the full -40°C to +125°C range makes it a reliable choice for demanding environmental monitoring, HVAC control, and industrial process applications.

Key Features

  • High-Precision Sensing: Delivers typical accuracy of ±0.2°C (0–65°C) with a resolution as fine as 0.01°C.
  • CMOSens® Technology: Integrated chip design provides calibrated, linearized digital output and superior long-term stability.
  • Flexible I2C Communication: Features two selectable slave addresses (0x4A, 0x4B) and includes CRC checksum for data integrity.
  • Optimized Power Management: Offers three repeatability modes for balancing performance and power consumption, with idle current as low as 0.2 µA.
  • Robust Environmental Rating: Operates reliably across an extended temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.
  • Compact Footprint: Housed in a miniature 3x3 mm DFN package, ideal for high-density PCB designs.
  • Programmable Alert Function: Integrated ALERT pin can be configured to signal when user-defined temperature thresholds are exceeded.
