The YDLIDAR X2L is a mechanically rotating 2D LiDAR sensor designed for robotics and environmental scanning. It operates on the principle of laser triangulation, where a laser emitter and a CMOS receiver work in tandem to calculate distance based on the reflected light’s position. This method provides a balance of high frequency (3000Hz ranging) and precision within its operational range.
The sensor’s 360° continuous rotation mechanically scans the environment, outputting real-time angle and distance data as point clouds. Communication is handled via a 3.3V UART serial protocol, which is widely supported by development boards like ESP32, STM32, and Raspberry Pi. The integrated design and recommended 7Hz scanning frequency optimize performance for applications such as robot navigation, SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), and 3D reconstruction.
