Seeed Studio Studio Grove Moisture Sensor v1.4 - Soil Resistivity Measurement Module
The Seeed Studio Studio Grove Moisture Sensor v1.4 is a soil resistivity measurement module compatible with 3.3V/5V logic systems like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32 via its Grove interface, providing analog output for precise soil moisture level detection in gardening and agricultural applications.
Features
- Measures soil moisture via electrical resistivity between two exposed probes.
- Standard Grove 4-pin interface for easy plug-and-play connection to Seeed Studio Studio base shields.
- Wide 3.3V to 5V DC operating voltage range compatible with most microcontrollers.
- Compact 60mm x 24mm PCB footprint with pre-drilled mounting holes for secure installation.
- Provides analog output signal proportional to soil moisture content for simple ADC reading.

The Grove Moisture Sensor operates on the principle of soil resistivity measurement. It features two exposed conductive probes that act as a variable resistor; as soil moisture increases, conductivity rises and resistance decreases. This change in resistance is converted into a variable voltage signal available at the analog output pin.
Designed primarily for prototyping and hobbyist applications, the module outputs a raw analog signal that requires an ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) on a host microcontroller for interpretation. It is not sealed or hardened for prolonged, direct soil exposure, and the probes are susceptible to electrolytic corrosion over time, limiting its use to controlled or short-term monitoring scenarios.
